On this page, I will discuss clothes washer and dryer maintenance. There are a
few things you need to do in order to maintain washers and dryers. It takes very
little time and effort to maintain washers and dryers but can save you lots of
headaches and can also extent the life of your washer and dryer.
Dryer maintenance
Clean Vent
If the vent on a dryer gets stopped up, it
will not dry clothes and can also be a potential fire hazard.
So it is best if you clean or replace your vent at least once a year. If you have a long vent it is easiest to replace the vent but if it’s blowing strong just clean each end. On long vents, water from condensation will accumulate in the vent and stop it up. To check this, lift up on the vent anywhere it is low, if it feels heavy it’s probably water starting to accumulate in it. When this happens replace the vent because even if you get all the water out, there is still a lot of wet lint that will block airflow.
I have reviewed two products that will make these chores easy.
Clean lint trap
You should always clean the lint trap each time you use the
dryer. If you don’t, the lent will block airflow and the dryer will not dry
clothes.
Washer Maintenance
Replace Fill Hoses
The fill hoses on your washer should
be changed at least once a year. This will greatly lower the chance of them
busting and causing damage to your home. First, remove the hoses, and clean the
strainers in the water valve. Then reinstall the new fill hoses making sure you
tighten them enough so that they don’t leak. Also be sure to install new rubber
seals in the hoses. Buy washer fill hoses here.
Clean Washer
Front-loading washers should be
cleaned once a month and top-loading washers should be clean once or twice a
year. If you don’t clean front-loaders they will mildew causing your clothes to
stink. It’s not as critical to clean top-loaders but once or twice a year is not
a bad idea. Tide along with some other companies are now making washing machine
cleaner. Its simple just, put some cleaner where you would normally put
detergent and run the washer through a normal cycle without clothes. Click here
