Answer

Hi Mag,

What I would suggest doing is replacing all four of the front drum glides and the one rear drum bearing. This covers what will typically cause a squealing noise. If the glides are worn so bad they are completely gone the holder that holds the glides in place may have to be replaced as well.

Thank you,

dwsr405eb1ww GE Dryer

Had a come and go squeel, now there's a high RPM metal to metal sound that is coming from the front bottom left of the dryer.

It looks like the two center nylon glides are worn completely through. Do I just need to replace those or does the main drum bearing need replaced.

I find it silly to design the dryer so it rests on the glides all the time, but of course I am not an engineer... The actual plastic piece looks okay.

I hardly ever open a GE dryer without replacing the main drum bearing. If the slides are worn through you may have to replace the plastic holder that holds the slides in place.

I don’t disagree about what you say about the slides however they work fair and most dryers have some kind of slides similar two yours. They use to use rollers that are better but I assume they don’t use them anymore because of cost.
