ICE BIN NOT PUSHING ICE THRU DOOR - GE PSF26NGTCBB

THE ICE BIN IS NOT PUSHING ICE THROUGH THE DOOR. THE REFIG IS GE, THE MODEL NUMBER IS PSF26NGTCBB. THE ICE BIN WAS REPLACED ONCE BEFORE 3 YEARS AGO UNDER WARRANTY. THE REFRIG WAS PURCHASED IN 2006. YOU CAN HEAR THE ICE MOVING IN THE BIN BUT NOTHING COMES OUT.
AUGER TURNS, SOLENOID WORKS, THE DISPENSER OPENS WHEN THE DISPENSER LEVER IS DEPRESSED.
I EMPTIED THE ICE BIN AND THE BIN SURE SEEMS TO MOVE AROUND ALOT WHEN THE MOTOR STARTS TO TURN. I DON'T KNOW IF REPLACING THE ICE BIN WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.
AnswerHi Nick,
Replacement parts in General Electric PSF26NGTCBB Refrigerator Dump the ice out and take a look at two things: the helix lock and the crusher cover.
The helix lock is just a lock that turns the helix, which causes the ice to drop out the door. If that helix lock will freely turn on the auger replace the lock and the auger. Below is a picture of both parts so you know what you are looking for.
If that seems ok take a look at the crusher cover, which is just the divider that separates the ice storage bin from where the ice is crushed. If it is broken the ice will not have anything to press up against and it will dispense slower or not at all. If it is broken replace it.
Here is a link that shows how to dissemble the ice bin however the one shown is a little bit different so dissemble is going to be a little different but it is basically the same with minor variations.
GE Ice Dispenser RepairIf you have trouble making the repair to the ice bin or think you may have trouble you can replace the entire ice bin. But if you plan to do that still check the things mentioned on this page so that you know the problem is in the ice bin. I hope this helps!
